The advancement in fishing technology in the past decade has inadvertently depleted the ocean’s fishes and the world’s annual harvest. About 75% of the annually captured fishes are used for direct human consumption, while the remaining 25% are used for the production of fishmeal and oil. Likewise, the annual production of fishmeal and other related by-products needed for aquaculture feeds is decreasing at an alarming rate. Its negative effect can be felt as prices of fishmeal continue to rise.

Soya bean is mass produced and has a stable harvest, but in the past, nutritionists doubted the quality of soya bean meal as a substitute for fishmeal because of the anti-nutritional factors that are in the soya bean meal. But using the successfully developed methods of fermentation together with probiotics and rigid quality control measures, we have been able to consistently decrease the anti-nutritional factors that are in the soya bean meal, making fermented soya bean meal an important partial or complete substitute for fishmeal.
